National Museum of Indonesia Part 1

I went to the National Museum of Indonesia located in Jakarta yesterday.  It was a wonderful experience. I saw textiles from various ethnic groups from different islands within Indonesia and wonderful very old statutes.

I have so many ideas from my visit.  My first selection of photographs is of barkcloth textiles – the colours and the texture was great.  Interestingly bark cloth differs between island groups in terms of its fine texture to rough texture.IMG_6113IMG_6114IMG_6120IMG_6118IMG_6121I really liked the patterns and can see them informing free form embroidery in the future.

How to make Bark Paper – if only it was this easy!!

IMG_6140This has given me more ideas in terms of the papers that I stitched for Assignment 2 – taking it further with imitation bark cloth and a piece of real bark cloth that I obtained.

Cannot wait to work on drawings and samples in my Work Book.
